Arts Funding Advice for Individuals

Within the CnES Arts and Cultural Funding pages there are 6 sources which individuals may be able to apply to if they can fulfil particular criteria, these are Visual Artists Awards, Craft Makers Awards, Arts Revenue Grants, LEADER, Business Gateway: Grants and Loans and The Ross and Cromarty Educational Trust. HI Arts
During 2010 HI-Arts will be organising a series of Go and See Visits which are aimed at Craft Makers from throughout the Highlands and Islands. HI Arts may be able to offer individuals financial assistance towards travel costs.

Scottish Arts Council
Visit Scottish Arts Council Funds for Individuals for full details of current Scottish Arts Council Grant Schemes for a range of art forms. Keep informed – sign-up for Scottish Arts Council funding updates and regular information bulletins.
Literature Awards
Visit the Society of Authors for a list of prizes, funds and grants for writers.
Visit the Scottish Poetry Library for a list of Poetry competitions.
Royal Scottish Academy
The Royal Scottish Academy administers several award and scholarship programmes for visual artists.
Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust
The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) makes awards ranging from £1,000 to £15,000 to craftsmen and women of all ages to help them further their careers.
The Hope Scott Trust
The Hope Scott Trust was set up by the late Mrs Hope Scott to help promote Music and the Visual Arts in Scotland. The Trust allocates a proportion of its resources to help musicians, artists, sculptors etc., with grants for commissions and musical events, and on the art side, to help with exhibitions, travel etc.

The Scottish Arts Council has a downloadable guide titled Funding Sources for the Arts in Scotland which includes information on Charitable Trusts which fund individuals.

Scottish Government: Rural Priorities
Individuals, businesses and properly constituted groups can apply to this fund which is part of the Scottish Rural Development Programme. For more details please refer to Rural Development Contracts - Rural Priorities and Rural Priorities – Outer Hebrides – Regional Priorities.
Scottish Government: Third Sector Enterprise Fund
This funding package is composed of 3 schemes. The Social Entrepreneurs Fund can support individual social entrepreneurs. For more details please refer to the Third Sector Enterprise Fund: Investment Strategy 2008 – 11 (PDF, 80K) .

ILA Scotland
If your own personal income is £18 000 a year or less you can get up to £500 towards approved courses, see International Learning Account Scotland.
Child Poverty Action Group can offer advice on studying while on benefits and tax credits.
