Galleries and Exhibitions
There are two publicly funded galleries in the Outer Hebrides - An Lanntair Arts Centre Stornoway, Isle of Lewis and Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre, Lochmaddy, Isle of North Uist.
Both venues have a reputation for excellence in the arts. They provide a year round changing programme of contemporary art exhibitions, which include work by local, national and international artists.
From 17th July to 7th August 2010 over 40 artists and makers throughout the Uists open their doors and welcome visitors to see their work in Art on the Map. Call 01876 500 293, or email getintouch@uistarts.org for details or a leaflet. The Uist Craft Producers Shop within the Kildonan Museum, Isle of South Uist has a display of locally made visual art and crafts.
There are also a growing number of private galleries in the Outer Hebrides. For listings and online maps of how to get to these venues see the HI-Arts Galleries Guide the Outer Hebrides Business Directory or download a copy of the Made in the Outer Hebrides: Visual Arts and Crafts Guide (PDF, 5.7M).
