Made in the Outer Hebrides
Made in the Outer Hebrides: a free cultural guide, documents the trail of public art works and landmarks found throughout the islands, and the network of Comainn Eachdraidh (local historical societies), festivals, museums, galleries, shops and websites where island culture can be explored, and art and craft made in the Outer Hebrides, can be viewed, enjoyed and purchased. Hard copies of the booklet are available to pick up at many locations on an island journey, or it can be downloaded here in three sections: Lewis (PDF, 8M), Harris (PDF, 4.5M), Uist/Barra (PDF, 6.3M).
Over 300 visual artists, photographers, craft makers, writers and musicians live and work in the Outer Hebrides. In addition to individuals listed in the Made in the Outer Hebrides Guide further information and contact details can also be found in the Outer Hebrides Business Directory, the Uist Artists’ and Makers’ Directory: Art on the Map and An Lanntair’s Artists' Network.
In 2015 a bid from the Outer Hebrides was awarded the Creative Place accolade by Creative Scotland, in recognition of our thriving culture and the quality and breadth of our local artistic work and creative activity. Championed by a dynamic partnership led by An Lanntair Arts Centre the win awarded funding towards the unique ‘Bealach’ project.
