With regard to the former Co-op building in Castlebay, Isle of Barra, the proposed demolition of the property was included in the Comhairle’s successful ‘South Uist and Barra Regeneration Programme’ bid to the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund in 2013. This proposal reflected the wishes of the local community, as expressed by Castlebay Community Council following a survey conducted locally in 2012. The proposal was also approved by the Comhairle in June 2014...

Press Release - Kildonan Museum Wins Heritage Lottery Fund Support

Today, Urras Eachdraidh Uibhist a Deas (UEUD) has received £91,726 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting project, Eachdraidh Easgaidh – Building on our active Heritage, at Kildonan Museum, Isle of South Uist. Led by volunteers from the local community the project, totalling over £800,000, will redevelop Taigh-Tasgaidh Chill Donnain to include an extension to the Museum and internal and external improvements to the site. Work is due to start in March with a phased development to enable the building to remain open during the season...
