What Is Community Education? Community Education Service Annual Report 2006/07 Community Education can be divided into three areas:Youth work Youth work provides opportunities for children and young people to achieve an extensive variety of skills and knowledge. Such work is designed to enhance the personal and social development of a young person. The role of Community Education staff is to provide educative, technical and administrative support to youth groups/forums/committees and youth leaders. Young Adult Literacies ProjectCommunity Development Community Education plays a vital role in supporting and encouraging people, either individually or in groups to develop projects which will be of benefit to the whole community. The Community Education service provides assistance to voluntary groups and enables volunteers to learn new skills and develop in confidence. The service also aims to encourage individuals and groups to participate in determining the conditions which affect their lives. Adult Education Adult Education is another key element of Community Education. This type of learning may be community based or within institutions of Further Education. Community Education is expected to play a major role in providing adult learning opportunities within community settings.
