Western Isles Young Person's NEC
National Entitlement Card - Proof of Age
Legislation has made it an offence for retailers to sell products, restricted by law, to a minimum age group. Such products include tobacco, fireworks, alcohol, lottery tickets, lighter fuels, video sales and rentals, solvent based glues, air guns and knives, butane, certain games magazines, tickets to certain cinema films and since the 5th November 2004 the sale of spray paints to under sixteens.
A number of retail outlets in the Western Isles have a Smartcard Reader provided by the Comhairle’s Community Safety Partnership, to make sure they do not unwittingly sell any age-restricted products to children who are not entitled to them.
You can use the Western Isles Young Person’s NEC to prove entitlement to certain goods and services.
