In particular, the following are the AIMS of the curriculum support service

1) To promote quality learning and teaching.

2) To assist schools with the implementation and development of the curriculum.

3) To foster an ethos of partnership, support and co-operation between teachers and curriculum support staff.

4) To identify, prioritise and progress the professional development needs of teachers.

5) To monitor and evaluate the effective delivery of the curriculum.

6) To assist schools in monitoring and evaluating their effectiveness.

7) To act as a link between schools and external agencies.

8) To monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the curriculum support service.

Staff working within the curriculum support service will achieve these aims by undertaking activities including the following:

a) Support schools in the production of school and department development plans.

b) Provide interpretation and guidance on national and local curriculum developments.

c) Support schools in progressing projects identified as development needs in their development plans.

d) Produce and disseminate curriculum support materials.

e) Organise a programme of centre-based in-service for teachers on in-service closure days.

f) Provide opportunities for the professional development and training for teachers.

g) Make information about resources easily accessible to all teachers.

h) Consult with, and provide practical support to teachers with regard to resource and curriculum development needs.

i) Organise support and in-service provision for probationer teachers and SQH candidates.

j) Organise support and in-service provision for school managers including induction of head teachers.

k) Set up networking arrangements to allow teachers to meet and discuss matters of mutual interest.
