Western Isles Structure Plan - Foreword
The Western Isles Structure Plan has been approved by the Scottish Ministers and became operative on 15 December 2003.The Plan has been prepared in the context of a number of challenges facing the Western Isles early in the 21st century. Some of these offer exciting opportunities whilst others pose threats to the future of those who live and work on the islands. A clear vision for land use can assist in addressing these challenges and I am pleased that the Western Isles Structure Plan is now in place providing a strong basis for investment and decision-making in the Western Isles for at least the next ten years. The Structure Plan complements the Western Isles Community Plan and the Comhairle’s Corporate Strategy and the Comhairle looks forward to working with its partners in the private sector as well as those in the public and social economy sectors to achieve the aims of the Structure Plan.
