Notice of Election

UK PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION
for
NA H-EILEANAN AN IAR CONSTITUENCY


1. An election is to be held for a Member to serve in the Parliament of the United Kingdom for the said Constituency.

2. NOMINATION PAPERS, together with a deposit of £500, may be delivered by the candidate, his/her proposer or seconder or election agent (where previously arranged) to the Returning Officer at:

the Election Office, Council Offices, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Sandwick Road, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, HS1 2BW

between the hours of 10.00am and 4.00pm on any weekday after the date of this notice, but not later than 4.00pm on Tuesday 20 April 2010.

3. Acceptable forms of payment for nomination deposits are electronic transfer of funds, bankers draft and cash.

4. Forms of nomination may be obtained at the place and times mentioned above. The Returning Officer will at the request of any elector prepare a nomination paper for signature.

5. If the election is contested, the poll will take place between the hours of 7.00am and 10.00pm on Thursday 6 May 2010.

NOTE

  1. The attention of candidates and electors is drawn to the rules for filling up nomination papers and other provisions relating to nomination contained in the parliamentary election rules in Schedule 1 of the Representation of the People Act 1983, as amended.
  2. Every person guilty of a corrupt or illegal practice will, on conviction, be liable to the penalties imposed by the Representation of the People Act 1983, as amended.
  3. All issues of postal ballot papers (except where a postal voter applies in person for a replacement for a spoilt or lost postal ballot paper) will be made by first class mail.  A postal ballot paper (together with the Postal Voting Statement and appropriate envelopes) may be returned either (a) by post or by hand to the Returning Officer or (b) by hand to a polling station in the constituency.  Any person intending to vote by post, who may be unable to deal timeously with a postal ballot paper under the foregoing arrangements, should consider applying instead for appointment of a proxy.
