Election Office

UK Parliamentary Election 6th May 2010

How to Register

To be able to vote in this year's UK Parliament Election your name must be on the Register of Electors and you must be 18 years or over on the day of the election.  To be entered onto the register you must be a British, Irish or Commonwealth citizen who is resident in the UK.

Are you on the register of electors?

Details for the electoral register are collected once a year.  All households are sent an Electoral Form in late August to early September each year for householders to complete and return to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).  If your name is not included on this form you run the risk of not being included in the Electoral Register and therefore unable to vote.  If you are not on the register or need to change your details, for instance if you have moved house, then see rolling registration. If you are not on the register of electors then you will not be able to vote.

Rolling Registration

Rolling registration procedures mean that the register of electors is updated every month.  This means that you can either add or update your details more regularly and quickly.  If you have either moved home, are coming up to 18 years of age or are not on the register, all you need to do is fill in a voter registration form.
