Village streetlights powered by the sun, heating in community centres taken from the soil, electricity for schools generated from the wind ... Not a pipe dream but the kind of examples that will be discussed as part of the Creating Sustainabnle Futures Renewable Energy Event taking part in the Western Isles this week. A presentation and discussion session will be held in Stornoway Town Hall on Thursday evening 20th March starting at 7.00pm The theme will be 'How Communities can benefit from renewable energy projects'. There will be examples of projects and presentations on - among others - renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, some models of community participation, questions and discussion. This will provide an opportunity to have your question answered by a panel of experts which will include Ian Taylor (Centre for Alternative Technology), Hugh Piggott (Scoraig Wind Electric) Brian Burns (Brian Burns & Associates), Ken Ross (Northern & Western Isles-Energy Efficiency Advice Centre), Eric Dodd (Community Energy Unit, Highlands & Islands Enterprise). The event will be chaired by Nicholas Gubbins, Head of Community Regeneration at Highlands & Islands Enterpise. All are welcome to attend. ENDS |
