A final total of 700,000 tonnes of rock has been removed from the Glendale quarry and from the Eriskay cutting and placed to form the causeway. 16 June 2001Work on the causeway is now turning into straightforward road completion and tarring.
In the week up to June 16, the programme of construction saw much of the work on the road itself completed - and an even greater focus on the landscaping needed to reinstate the areas around where the work has been continuing for the past 14 months. One year ago, this was the situation report:- "June
19, 2000: Work on the Eriskay side has seen the causeway core advance
150 metres into the sea - keeping an average 2.5m below full planned
height - and 14,000 tonnes of rock has been placed in this section

23 June 2001Work on the road sytem and marshalling area for the new ferry port on Eriskay proceeded fast in the week to June as did work on the highers surfaces of the causeway road.

30 June 2001The emphasis of work in the week up to June 30 was strongly environmental with work continuing to reinstate land affected by the Uist quarry and the haul road as well as around other parts of the project area. As the project moves towards completion, the number of people employed on it is starting to fall, dropping below 50 for the first time since last August.
