Comhairle Budget Strategy
The Comhairle approved its initial Budget Strategy for 2012/13 in March 2011 (PDF, 40K) and this was updated in June 2011 (PDF, 45K), in October 2011 (PDF, 75K) and again in
December 2011 (PDF, 235K), to reflect the development of the Scottish Budget.
The Comhairle held two budget seminars in July 2011 and October 2011 (PDF, 350K) to enable Comhairle Members to discuss the strategy and key issues associated with the development of the budget.
In the context of the overall flat settlement for Local Government in Scotland, announced in the
Scottish Budget on 21 September 2011, and the Individual Council Allocations issued on 8 December 2011, the Comhairle has been considering options for service reductions.
As part of this process the Comhairle held public consultation meetings in Barvas, Castlebay, Daliburgh, Carinish, Tarbert and Stornoway in November 2011. Views collated at these meetings helped guide the Comhairle in deciding which service areas should be prioritised at its meeting in December 2011 (Budget Choices 2012-13 Report (PDF, 100K)).
The Comhairle is now holding a further series of consultation meetings in January 2012 on the detailed proposals set out in its Consultation Document (PDF, 135K). Meetings are being held as follows:
