Comhairle Budget 2016-18
In the light of continuing pressure on public sector funding the Comhairle approved its initial Budget Strategy 2016-18 (PDF, 290K) in April 2015.
The next key date will be the UK Government’s Spending Review due to be announced on 25 November 2015. This will be followed by the Scottish Budget and local Government Settlement in December 2015.
The exact level of savings the Comhairle needs to find will not be known until the figures are published. However, planned has already started to ensure the Comhairle is as well prepared as it can be for the 2016/17 budget.
In addition to an extensive Workforce Planning consultation the Comhairle is now holding six public consultation meetings as follows:
|Tuesday 10 November||Sir E Scott School, Tarbert||7pm|
|Wednesday 11 November||Council Chamber, Stornoway||7pm|
|Monday 16 November||Sgoil an Taobh Siar, Barvas||7pm|
|Thursday 19 November||Castlebay School, Barra||7pm|
|Friday 20 November||Daliburgh School, South Uist
Paible School, North Uist
Comments on any aspect of the budget are welcomed but could include consideration of the following questions:
1. What are the service priorities for this community?
2. Has the Comhairle got the balance of funding between services right?
3. Should the Comhairle be looking to increase charges for services?
4. What are the views on the continuation of the Council Tax Freeze?
5. Are there any opportunities for the Comhairle to realise savings?
