| Beinn Mhor Power Ltd Application
An application was lodged with the Scottish Ministers by Beinn Mhor Power Ltd on the 1st December 2004 for consent under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 to construct and operate a 133 three-megawatt turbine windfarm and associated infrastructure, on the Eisgein Estate, Isle of Lewis. An Environmental Statement accompanied the application.
Since the application was lodged, the proposed windfarm has been reduced from 133 turbines to 53.
A Public Local Inquiry was held in Stornoway in May 2008, the remit of the inquiry was to have regard to National Planning Policy 14:Natural Heritage, in respect of whether any adverse effects of the proposed development upon the qualities for which the South Lewis, Harris and North Uist National Scenic Area has been designated, are clearly outweighed by social and economic benefits of national importance arising from the proposed development. It is expected that the report to inform the Scottish Ministers will be completed by the Reporter by late summer 2008.
Legal submissions made to the Public Local Inquiry.
