Ian Stephen – Western Isles Libraries’ Reader in Residence 2011 / 2012

We are proud to announce that Ian Stephen has taken up the position of Reader in Residence for Western Isles Libraries. For the next six months, Ian will work with library staff on a series of events and activities aimed at encouraging people to share a love for words, reading and creative writing. The post is funded by Creative Scotland and administered and developed by Shetland Arts Development Agency.

Ian Stephen was born in Stornoway and still lives there. He studied Education, Drama and Literature at Aberdeen University graduating with a B Ed (hons) with distinction.
Ian worked for the Coastguard Service for many years but has been a full time writer and artist since winning the first Robert Louis Stevenson Award in 1995. His project of navigating through the settings of traditional maritime stories was funded by a Creative Scotland Award and this has remained a key element in his work. He travels widely to tell stories.
Ian will be working with libraries all over the Western Isles to promote reading and storytelling. To find out what Ian is doing, follow his blog.
