ISLAND GOING

JOURNEYS IN THE WESTERN ISLES

This exhibition, prepared by the School of Scottish Studies, is a record of the visits to the Western Isles made by Robert Atkinson over a thirty year period beginning in 1935. His explorations took him to the most remote and outlying parts of the islands St Kilda, Mingulay, the Flannan Isles, the Shiant Isles, Rona and Sula Sgeir. The exhibition illustrated by Robert Atkinson's excellent camera work, gives a vivid picture of the islands at a time of great change. The experiences and adventures of Atkinson in the islands are related in his book - Island Going, published in 1949.

KEEPERS OF THE LIGHT

Opening Wednesday 11th February 1998

'Keepers of the Light' is an exhibition prepared by Scotland's Lighthouse Museum and celebrates the end of the manned era of the country's lighthouses.
