Progress on Nicolson Institute Site February 2011
In January 2011, erection of primary steel work commenced at the Nicolson Institute. All bulk excavations are now complete and concrete pad foundations to the North end of the site are almost complete. Major services diversions including ICT and SSE Substation relocation have been undertaken and the next major diversion works will comprise the road widening and inclusion of filter lane on Sandwick Road.
At The Nicolson Institute, progress has been made with developing and agreeing a decant strategy in relation to the refurbishment of the Pentland Building. There have been a number of meetings between the contractor, school management, Learning Community Principal, affected teachers and other Comhairle stakeholders. The decant strategy will essentially remove a PE teaching space (the Old Gym) and as a consequence additional school use of Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais (ISL) will be required from June 2011 onwards.
It is hoped work will also commence shortly on the refurbishment of Matheson Hall which in the final scheme will accommodate an island wide Schools ICT Hub.
