Western Isles Schools Project (WISP)

Point Primary School

Progress on Point Primary School February 2011

Works have been progressing well on the new Point School further to the completion of the structural steelwork and  concrete floors in late 2010.  Regular progress meetings have been held between the Comhairle, Sgoiltean Ùra and FMP during the construction process.  While there has been some lost time in respect of some of the external operations due to adverse weather and high winds, the project is still running to programme and on target to meet the Service Availability date of 10 August 2011.

On site, the secondary metal framing to the external elevations is near completion, as is the internal and external blockwork.  Roofing works and the internal partition framing and lining are ongoing and the mechanical and electrical first fix has also commenced.  External works, within the existing site boundary, are being progressed as the works develop while the remainder of the external areas will be developed after the transfer to the new facility allows the demolition of the existing school to be undertaken.

The WISP team are in the process of agreeing preferred room layouts, finishes and colour strategies and security strategies with the school stakeholders.  A consultation meeting focussing on external and landscaping works was also recently held with stakeholders which gave school staff, parents and community representatives the opportunity to discuss the external spaces around the school with the designers and provide input on the types of play equipment, planting areas and environmental features they would like to see included within the school grounds.  A representative from Point Sports and Recreation attended the meeting and made a valuable contribution to the discussion.
