On the 17-18 September representatives from arts organisations
and those active in the arts field from throughout the Western Isles
will be meeting in Lochmaddy Hall for the first Western Isles Art
Forum event.
The purpose of the event is to provide a networking opportunity
and discuss common issues. In addition, we will be discussing the
National Cultural Review with Karen Watson from the Scottish Executive
in order to ensure that issues relevant to our Island communities
are registered and included in national policy. There will also
be a presentation from Bryan Beattie who has been commissioned to
carry out the Social and Economic Impact Study of Arts in the Western
Isles.
A series of discussion topic groups will be planned around the
findings from the June consultation; these will be informal but
will hopefully result in a consolidation of ideas and agreed actions
as part of the Western Isles Culture Strategy. These groups will
include all art forms e.g. crafts, literature, drama etc.
On Friday evening there will be a buffet dinner, ceilidh and dancing
allowing everyone the opportunity to mix and socialise.
