Locheynort Councillor Ronnie Mackinnon has welcomed the announcement that the Scottish Executive will look positively at establishing a ferry link between Lochboisdale and Mallaig.
Cllr Mackinnon said: “At a meeting of Comhairle representatives, Alasdair Morrison MSP and Transport Minister Nicol Stephen MSP in Stornoway last week, the Minister agreed that he would examine the viability of a ferry link between Lochboisdale and Mallaig. This makes sense from every perspective. It will be good for islanders, good for island businesses and good for the tourist trade. A three hour ferry journey to Mallaig is far more appealling than the present arrangements that can take nine hours to arrive in Oban. This is an issue I have pursued for years and I was grateful for the opportunity to put the case directly to the Minister. I enlisted the help of our MSP Alasdair Morrison, who arranged the meeting with Nicol and he has supported this campaign from day one. It is my intention to continue working with Alasdair to make this new ferry route a reality. I would also like to thank the Minister Nicol Stephen, and I can assure him that I will assist him and the Scottish Executive in any way to put in place a much needed and more reliable ferry journey.”
