A Public Information meeting on climate change and renewable energy issues is to be held in Stornoway Town Hall on the evening of 5th April 2005.
The meeting has been organised by the Hebridean Renewable Energy Partnership, formerly WIAREP.
The event is intended to provide unbiased and factual information to address non project specific issues that have been identified as areas of concern within the Western Isles community.
HEB-REP has arranged a panel of five experts to give short presentations in their specialist fields to the general public, which will be followed by a questions and answers session. The speakers will be:
1. Global warming and climate change issues: Mr Simon Reddy, Policy and Solutions Director, Greenpeace.
2. Electricity grid issues in Scotland and the Western Isles: Dr Keith MacLean, head of Western Isles grid connection project, Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Ltd.
3. Wind turbines and the perceived "hazards" of low frequency noise: Dr Geoff Leventhall, an Independent noise consultant.
4. Community experience with wind farms: Andrew King, Chairman of Energy4All Ltd and Baywind Energy Co-operative.
5. Renewable Energy Development in Scotland: Maf Smith, Chief Executive of the Scottish Renewables Forum.
John Morrison, broadcaster and journalist will chair the event.
Entrance will be on a first come first serve basis.There will also be live coverage of the meeting on Isles FM.
