Comhairle nan Eilean Siar today expressed disappointment at the news that Biolitec Pharma, who have been operating out of Breasclete factory since 2002, is to close with the loss of 12 jobs.

Comhairle Convener, Alex MacDonald, in whose ward the factory is located said:
“Our first concern is obviously for the staff and their families.

“The factory in Breasclete is a first-rate, quality research and production facility, with a highly-skilled workforce. The Comhairle will be working closely with Western Isles Enterprise and others in the coming weeks to help those affected and to explore new opportunities.
