Comhairle nan Eilean Siar says the announcement today from Stolt is a ‘bitter blow’ for the economy of the Western Isles and particularly for the employees of the company.

Convener Alex MacDonald said:

“We recognise the problems the industry has been having and this is not unexpected but it is still disappointing and a bitter blow, particularly for the employees and their families. The Comhairle is seeking assurances that the company will make every effort to mitigate the circumstances that the employees now find themselves in. The Comhairle will work closely with WIE and other partners and will be seeking discussions with Stolt at the earliest opportunity.”
