A series of presentations to Western Isles Councillors on proposals
by Lewis WindPower to install 234 wind turbines and by Beinn Mhor
Power to install 133 wind turbines have been organised for next
week. They will take place in the Council Chamber, starting at 10am
on Monday 23rd May.
The presentations will be made at meetings of the Environmental
Services Committee of the Comhairle. Chairman of the Environmental
Services Committee, Angus Nicolson, has said that the presentations
have been arranged to give Members of the Comhairle and the public
an opportunity to gain as much information as possible on the proposals
before the Comhairle has to reach its view on the proposals in June
and then submit its view to the Scottish Ministers who will be responsible
for reaching decisions.
Angus Nicolson said, “These meetings are intended to help
us deal with a unique combination of proposals. We have asked Community
Councils to attend to give us an understanding of what local communities
feel about the proposals. We will also be hearing from agencies
such as SNH and HIE. I am pleased to hear that there has been a
good response to invitations to attend and make presentations. The
meetings have been arranged to allow Members of the Comhairle to
gather as much information as possible on these very large proposals
before we decide, probably in June, on what view to send to the
Scottish Ministers and that the public is given as much information
as possible about the potential benefits and disbenefits. The meetings
show that the Comhairle is committed to making sure that it reaches
its view in a well considered manner.”
