Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Balivanich Regeneration Project
has collected another high profile Scottish Award.
After winning a Dynamic Place Award in 2004 the project has been
judged the winner of the Royal Institute Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
Scotland Community Benefit Award 2005.
The judges at RICS felt that the project was "an excellent
example of joined-up thinking and highlights the many community
benefits that successful regeneration can bring".
Housing Chairman Cllr Norman Macleod said: “I am delighted
that the efforts made by the Comhairle and the local community in
this project have again been recognised at a national level. It
is testament to the work of our staff that the regeneration of the
area has been recognised by such a prestigious award”.
The project team will be presented with a trophy in Stornoway on
the 8th June and the project will go forward to represent Scotland
in the grand final of the RICS Awards in London in October this
year.
The project has been evaluated as a tremendous success winning
2 top awards and being commended at both the UK Regeneration and
Local Government Chronicle awards within the last six months.
