Work will begin next week on a state-of-the-art residential care
facility for South Uist. The South Uist Care Development will be
a first rate facility for people who require residential care. The
facility has been developed in close consultation with the communities
of South Uist who have long made the case for improved facilities
for the social and health care of the people of the area. The new
Care Development has been designed by the Comhairle’s Technical
Services Department and will feature 18 accommodation units, guest
rooms, library, greenhouse and 3 garden areas. The original Daliburgh
Hospital, built more than a century ago, has been preserved within
the design for the new care centre which will replace Uist House
which is now over 40 years old. A short ‘turf cutting’
ceremony, attended by the Chair and Vice-Chair of Social Work and
local Councillors and representaives of local contactors Macinnes
Brothers will mark the start of work on the project.
