Comhairle to Undertake Telephone Survey

21 June 2005

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is to undertake a telephone survey in order to ascertain the public’s views regarding the possible location of a new customer service centre.

As part of its commitment towards providing accessible and efficient services the Comhairle is presently undertaking a feasibility study relating to the opening of a number of “Service Access Points” throughout the islands.

The purpose of a Service Access Point will be to provide a face to face single point of access to a range of services offered by the Comhairle where customers will be able to visit the Service Access Point, speak to a member of staff and access a range of services.

As over a third of the population of the Western Isles live in the Stornoway area, the Comhairle intends to establish the first Service Access Point in Stornoway and the site selected will need to be easily accessible and close to parking facilities. Possible locations include the present Sandwick Road Offices, the Town Hall or another Town Centre location.

A Comhairle spokesperson stated that ‘In order to obtain the public’s views about possible location and opening/closing hours, staff from Faire, the Comhairle’s Community Alarm Service, will be telephoning a random sample of the public from this week.’
The survey exercise is expected to last over the next four weeks.
