Waste Not Want Not
12 September 2005

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is declaring a day of amnesty on office waste in its Stornoway headquarters. The move is part of the Comhairle’s Waste Reduction Strategy Project which aims to minimise waste by reduction, reuse, repair and recycling.

The Amnesty Day, on Wednesday 21st September, will provide the opportunity for employees to clear out all unwanted items such as old publications, office equipment and stationery.

Some of the unwanted items will be offered to Voluntary Action Lewis who will arrange to distribute to local charities.

Mrs Helen Froud, Director of Corporate Services, said: “Most of us are guilty from time to time of holding onto something that ‘might be useful later’ but usually isn’t! This Waste Amnesty Day will provide many benefits including raising awareness amongst the Comhairle’s employees, reducing the amount and cost of waste going to landfill, increasing recycling, reducing waste and benefiting local charities.”

The Comhairle hopes to hold similar Amnesty Days in other Comhairle offices in the near future.
