Three local men have achieved Tree surgeon status by successfully completing their National Proficiency Tests Council Forestry qualification. Dave Fisher of Fisher & Longley Landscaping, Calum Mackenzie and Iain Murray, both employees of the Stornoway Trust, completed their three day examination in July under the supervision of NPTC instructor Ron Clowes.
The candidates had been training for two months after completing the NPTC week long course in May which was delivered by Allan Scott. The course has been sponsored by the Forestry Commission and CnES as part of the Comhairle’s commitment to forest education and Training through the Western Isles Woodland Strategy released in January 2004.
The three Arborists are now working within the Lews Castle Grounds clearing the storm damage caused by the January storms and are keen to be able to use their new skills to help restore the Grounds to their former glory.
