Severe Weather
11th November 2005
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Northern Constabulary are urging the public to be careful during the adverse weather in the Western Isles.

The Islands are experiencing heavy rain and high winds which are expected to last throughout the day and into the weekend.

On Lewis, The Braighe is now shut due to the adverse weather. It will be shut until approx. 3.30 pm - 4.00 pm depending on the tides and weather conditions then.

A spokesperson said: “Weather conditions are poor and expected to remain so for some time. Whilst there is no cause for alarm, people should take care, particularly when driving in such poor conditions. There may be localised flooding in some places. At the moment there are no plans to close any facilities or roads other than the Braighe, but obviously we will continue to monitor the situation.”

A number of Council facilities have now closed early due to the adverse weather, including the Barra and Balivanich offices. Some schools have also closed. List below:

Schools closed early:

Castlebay

All the schools in the Uists (except for Daliburgh).

Aird and Sandwick
