Young Consumers

Do you know who looks after price fixing in the UK?
Which piece of criminal legislation makes it an offence for traders to deliberately or accidentally mislead consumers in describing products or services?
In which room do most domestic fires start?

These are the kind of questions a team from the Nicolson Institute will need to be able to answer when they travel to Inverness later this week (Friday 9th Dec) to represent the Western Isles in the North of Scotland round of the prestigious Young Consumers Competition

The Trading Standards Institute have been coordinating the Young Consumers Competition for the past 20 years and the competition is currently sponsored by Consumer Direct Scotland.

The Nicolson team will be competing against schools from Highland and Aberdeenshire Councils and the winners of this round will go forward to the Scottish final in Edinburgh in May.

The quiz covers many diverse topics including consumer rights and responsibilities, Safety and the environment, as well as questions on Europe and travel.

They will be accompanied to Inverness with their teacher Mairi Anderson and Marina MacSween from the Comhairle's Trading Standards Department..
