Western Isles MSP Alasdair Morrison will today launch an innovative new research project aimed at reducing carbonemissions from the built environment. Greenspace Research, which is being jointly undertaken by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and UHI Millenium Institute Lews Castle College, is an applied, interdisciplinary Internet-based project focused on optimising use of natural resources and the dynamic design and management of green buildings.
Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Alex Macdonald said: “Greenspace Research forms an important component of the Energy Innovation Zone, established by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and its Community Planning Partners in response to environmental concerns and a recognition that renewable energy is a sustainable way of meeting energy demands. It is a bold initiative which will help to transform utilisation of clean energy sources in the construction industry and create a centre of excellence in renewables-related design, management and software expertise at the UHI Millenium Institute Lews Castle College”. Project partners include UHI Millenium Institute, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and USA-based GreenBuildingStudio.
