A meeting of the Harris Tweed Industry Liaison Group was held on 3rd July, as representatives from the three Harris Tweed producers, the Association of Harris Tweed Weavers, the Harris Tweed Authority, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, and Lews Castle College/UHI, gathered together to discuss and collaborate on industry-wide issues.
Comhairle Vice-Convener, Angus Campbell, said, “The meeting was extremely positive in terms of the future of Harris Tweed. We were delighted to have James Sugden, Chair of the Scottish Textiles Forum and Group Managing Director, Johnstons of Elgin, at the meeting to share his expertise with the group. The group is working together to progress industry wide priorities such as promotion, distribution and skills development”.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from the National Textiles Team at Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International, who are giving valuable input into the continued development of the profile of Harris Tweed at a national and international level.
