Museum nan Eilean is currently hosting the exhibition Architectural Ironwork in Stornoway from Historic Scotland. This exhibition highlights what has been described as Scotland’s “Hidden Gem” - the late 19th and early 20th century decorative ironwork which survives on and around many of Stornoway’s homes and buildings - to a greater extent than elsewhere in British towns and cities.
The Museum and Historic Scotland together with An Lanntair have just concluded a successful programme of children’s workshops and these should continue in the new school term. Over the summer a series of casting workshops will be held for adults. These will be run by local visual artist Sandra Kennedy who will introduce participants to sand casting and relief casting. The workshops will run daily from Tuesday 29th July to Friday 1st August, 10am – 3pm and participants can choose to attend one day only or up to all four days. The workshops cost £10 per day or £30 for the four days. Places are limited to 7 participants per day and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
