“Local Food For Local Consumption” Conference on 3rd September
Supported by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, a local food conference will take place on 3rd September in An Lanntair, Stornoway. The theme of the Conference will be “Local Food for Local Consumption” - with issues ranging from quality assurance, distribution and supply to the public sector discussed during a variety of workshop sessions.
Guest speakers will include Carole Inglis, of the Skye and Lochalsh Food Link, Catherine Brady from Scottish Food Quality Certification and Donald Murdie, of Lewis and Harris Horticultural Producers. They will address the conference on the benefits and impacts of local production from their individual perspectives and all hope to stimulate discussion as regards the way forward in increasing supply and demand of local produce for local consumption.
The Local Food Conference also aims to facilitate greater awareness of the opportunities for supplying more local food to the public sector, and raise awareness within the public sector of the challenges facing local producers and suppliers.
