Capital Works For 2009
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar will tender over £6m of construction projects between now and next August. This is in addition to the £12m of capital projects already scheduled which includes the Western Isles Schools project.
Over the nine months from now to August the building and engineering projects to be tendered will have a value of £3m up to February 2009, £1.7m between March and May and £1.3m between June and August.
Works will include school refurbishments, coastal protection schemes and road and causeway projects.
Comhairle Leader Angus Campbell said; “The Comhairle and its Community Planning Partners are doing what we can to support the local economy. This work will provide a sustained flow of capital into the construction industry and help to provide local employment.”
Beyond August 2009 significant building projects which are likely to be tendered include Harris House enabling works, changing facilities and pitches at various schools, the Creative Media Centre at Seaforth Road and work to the main Comhairle Headquarters, including roof and some window replacement.
