Comhairle Appoints Joan Mackinnon As Director of Education and Children’s Services

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar today appointed Joan Mackinnon to the position of Director of Education and Children’s Services.

This is a new post in the Comhairle following the merging of Children’s Services with the Education function of the Authority.

Joan has worked for the Comhairle within the Education Department for the past 18 years. Previously she worked as Headteacher at Tolsta and prior to that as teacher at Stornoway Primary School and in Scalpay in Harris where she was born and brought up.

Morag Munro, Chair of Education and Children’s Services, said: “I very much welcome this appointment to what is a key post for the Comhairle. We were fortunate to have a very talented shortleet of individuals and it was a hard decision to make. I now look forward to working with Joan and wish her all the best in her new post.”

Chief Executive Malcolm Burr added: “I very much look forward to welcoming Joan as Director of Education and Children’s Services and as part of the Management Team of the Comhairle. I am delighted with this excellent appointment and look forward to working with her on the key issues and challenges ahead”.

‘S e dreuchd ùr a tha seo as a’ Chomhairle as dèidh mar a chaidh Seirbheisean Cloinne agus Foghlaim a thighinn còmhla taobh a-staigh an Ughdarrais.

Rugadh agus thogadh Seonag anns na Hearadh.  Tha i air a bhith ag obair airson Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, taobh a-staigh Roinn an Fhoghlaim, fad ochd bliadhna deug.  Roimhe sin bha i na Ceannard air Bun Sgoil Tholastaidh, agus bha i cuideachd a’ teagasg aig Bun Sgoil Steòrnabhaigh agus ann am Bun Sgoil Sgalpaigh.

Thuirt Cathraiche Comataidh Foghlaim agus Seirbheisean Cloinne na Comhairle, Mòrag Rothach:“Tha mi a cur fàilte air a naidheachd seo agus gu dreuchd a tha cudromach dha rìreabh taobh a-staigh na Comhairle.  Bha sinn fortanach gu robh daoine tàlantach staigh airson an dreuchd agus bha e gu math doirbh a thighinn gu co-dhùnadh.  Tha mi a’ coimhead air adhart gu mòr ri bhith ag obair le Seonag agus tha mi a’ guidhe a h-uile soirbheachas dhi as an dreuchd ùr”.

Thuirt Àrd Oifigear na Comhairle, Malcolm Burr: “Tha mi a’ coimhead air adhart ri bhith a cur fàilte air Seonag mar Cheannard Seirbheisean Foghlaim agus Cloinne agus mar phairt de Sgioba Rìanachd na Comhairle.   Tha mi toilichte dha rireabh leis an suidheachadh seo agus tha mi a’ coimhead air adhart ri bhith ag obair còmhla ri Seonag air na cuspairean bunaiteach agus na dùbhlain a tha air thoiseach oirnn”.
