Comhairle nan Eilean Siar

Press Release
15th June 2009

Future Jobs Fund

The Western Isles Employability Partnership is seeking innovative ideas from employers throughout the Western Isles in order to take advantage of opportunities arising from the Future Jobs Fund recently announced by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).  The Future Jobs Fund will provide funding for 150,000 jobs that will come on line from the autumn, and will be paid at least at National Minimum Wage.  These will be targeted primarily at 18-24 year olds, but some will also be available for other disadvantaged groups and unemployment hotspots.

Speaking on behalf of the Employability Partnership, Joe MacPhee, Head of Economic Development at the Comhairle said: “This is an exciting opportunity for all employers, community organisations and other groups throughout the islands to consider how they could benefit from the Future Jobs Fund.  We would encourage everybody with an interest to go on to the DWP website at http://www.dwp.gov.uk/campaigns/futurejobsfund/ and download the information.   It is important that we develop a strategic partnership approach.  This approach has the potential to deliver the most innovative bid and to enable sustainable employment opportunities that go beyond the short term job creation through synergies and links with existing projects.”

The Future Jobs Fund bids can come from anyone, but the government has a strong preference for partnership bids.  It is anticipated that the majority of bids will be led by local authorities, local partnerships, or by national or local public sector and third sector bodies.  Bids will only be considered if they meet certain criteria, including:

The Comhairle has set up a specific email address for anyone to contact them with their ideas for the Future Jobs Fund at futurejobsfund@cne-siar.gov.uk

Tha Com-pàirteachas Cosnaidhean nan Eilean Siar a’ sireadh beachdan ùr-ghnàthach bho luchd-fastaidh air feadh nan Eilean Siar gus cothrom a ghabhail air Maoin Obraichean ri Teachd a dh’fhoillsich Roinn a’ Chosnaidh ‘s nam Peinnsean bho chionn ghoirid.  Tha Maoin Obraichean ri Teachd a maoineachadh 150,000 cosnadh bhon fhoghar agus gheibhear, co-dhiù, Tuarasdal Ìos-mheud Nàiseanta.  ‘S ann ag amas air daoine eadar 18-24 a bhios e, ach bidh fosglaidhean ann do bhuidhnean ana-cothromach eile agus do sgìrean far a bheil cion-cosnaidh na thrioblaid.

A’ bruidhinn as leth Com-pàirteachas nan Cosnaidhean, thuirt Joe MacPhì, Ceannard Leasachadh Eaconomach na Comhairle: “’S e cothrom air leth a tha seo do luchd-fastaidh, do bhuidhnean coimhearsnachd agus do bhuidhnean eile air feadh nan eilean beachdachadh air ciamar a thèid aca air buannachd fhaighinn bho Mhaoin Obraichean ri Teachd.  Dh’iarradh sinn air neach sam bith aig a bheil ùidh a dhol gu làrach-lìn an DWP sin aig http://www.dwp.gov.uk/campaigns/futurejobsfund/ agus fiosrachadh fhaighinn an-sin.  Tha e cudromach gun tèid com-pàirteachas ro-innleachdail a chur an gnìomh.  Ma thèid sin a’ dhèanamh tha cothrom againn tairgse ùr-ghnàthach a lìbhrigeadh gus cothroman cosnaidh seasmhach a chruthachadh a mhaireas nas fhaide na obair geàrr-ùine tro cho-obrachadh agus ceanglaichean le pròiseactan a tha air an stèidheachadh mu thràth.”

Faodaidh duine sam bith iarrtas a chur a-steach fo Mhaoin Obraichean ri Teachd, ach tha an riaghaltas gu mòr a’  lorg iarrtasan bho bhuidhnean compàirte.  Thathar a’ sùileachadh gun tig a mhòr chuid de dh’iarrtasan bho ughdarrasan ionadail, compàirtichean ionadail, no bho earrannan poblach nàiseanta agus ionadail no buidhnean bhon bhuidhnean saor-thoileach.  Feumaidh iarrtasan slatan-tomhais sònraichte a ruighinn mus tèid sùil a thoirt orra, nam measg:
