COUNCIL BENEFITS UPTAKE TEAM REACH THE £1M MARK
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, supported by the Scottish Government’s Fairer Scotland Fund, have been providing benefits uptake services primarily for the over 60s in the Western Isles. The team provide individual support for potential claimants to enable them to claim the benefits they are entitled to but may not have been aware of in the past.
This week the team have reached the £1m mark for the additional benefits secured. Speaking today Comhairle Leader Angus Campbell said: “The Benefits Uptake Service has provided an important boost to the finances of individuals in our community. I am delighted that we have reached such an important milestone and am sure that the team can support many more people in our community to secure the benefits that they are due it is even more welcome at this difficult time.”

- The Benefits Uptake Service was launched as part of a financial inclusion programme in April 2007.
- The Comhairle was awarded Scottish Government Fairer Scotland Funding to continue the service
- The Benefits Uptake Service is located in the Benefits Team in the Finance and Corporate Resources Department.
