Islanders Prepare For Mod 2009

After months of dedication and preparation competitors and local choirs from across the Western Isles are in the final stages of practice ahead of the 2009 Royal National Mod. The Mod will be held this year in Oban; the birthplace of the Festival and it is appropriate that the Mod is returning back to Oban in 2009, the Homecoming Year. Friday will mark the official opening of the Mod and competitions will run for the entire week culminating with the prestigious Lovat and Tullibardine choral competition on Friday the 16th of October. Over the course of the week 3000 participants will take place in competitions ranging from fiddle and clàrsach, through to duet singing and drama. Convenor of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Alex MacDonald said:

“On behalf of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar I would like to take this opportunity to wish all participants from the Western Isles the very best of luck at Mod 2009. Each year our Islands are well represented and I hope that once again our competitors return home with an abundance of silverware. It is also particularly encouraging that we have a number of junior choirs attending the Mod this year and I would especially like to wish them every success”.
