Shortlist Announced For Sgoiltean Ùra Project

Following on from the recent submission of planning applications for the five schools being built as part of the Western Isles Schools Project, Sgoiltean Ùra has recently announced the shortlists of bidders for the Detailed Design/Construction and Lifecycle Maintenance/Facilities Management contracts.

The contracts were recently advertised in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) and a total of 16 submissions were received. Following detailed evaluation of the Pre Qualification Questionnaires by Sgoiltean Ùra and their legal, financial and technical advisors, shortlists were this week approved by the Sgoiltean Ùra Board.

Norman A Macdonald, Chair of Sgoiltean Ùra, said “The response to our OJEU Notices was extremely encouraging and demonstrates that there remains a very real interest in the project at local, regional and national levels. We were extremely impressed with the quality of the submissions and have now considered the results of the evaluation process enabling us to approve the shortlists and move forward with these contractors to the next stage of the procurement process.”

The shortlists approved by the Board of Sgoiltean Ùra on Wednesday 21 October 2009 comprise:

Detailed Design/Construction

Lifecycle Maintenance/Facilities Management

Iain Mackinnon, Executive Director of Sgoiltean Ùra, said, “We had a very successful project promotion event in Glasgow at the end of January 2009 and it was clear then that the Western Isles Schools Project was of interest to a wide range of potential bidders. The development of the current delivery structure has made the project considerably more attractive to potential bidders and we are delighted that the level of interest has been maintained since then.”

“We now plan to issue tender documents to the approved shortlist of bidders by 20 November 2009 and very much look forward to working with these contractors over the next several months concluding with the submission of tenders at the beginning of February 2010”.

“We also hope to be able to secure the necessary planning consents from the Comhairle by the end of December and, although there remains a significant amount of work to do before we can make a start on the five sites, we still remain confident that we will be in a position to do so by the summer of 2010”.
