Welcome As SHETL Opts For Subsea Connection
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has welcomed news that Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Limited (SHETL) is to pursue a subsea route for the Grabhir/Stornoway connection. The proposed connection is to strengthen the Western Isles grid as part of an overall upgrade of transmission lines.
There had been concerns over the infrastructure associated with an overland connection.
Comhairle Leader Angus Campbell said: “This is a welcome decision that reflects the views of the Comhairle and the local community. I would thank SHETL for recognising local concerns and opting for a less intrusive infrastructure proposal. Hopefully this will pave the way for further renewable energy development in the islands”.
Further information on the project and a map of the route are available at www.scottish-southern.co.uk on the Media Centre-Project Portfolio-Western Isles pages
