Comhairle nan Eilean Siar

Press Release - 11th December 2012

Welcome For Ardveenish Harbour Funds

Comhairle nan EIlean Siar has welcomed news of a Coastal Communities fund award of £283, 341 towards the redevelopment of Ardveenish Harbour in Barra.

Comhairle Leader Angus Campbell said: "This is very welcome news. The Comhairle recognised the importance of a safe, secure harbour at Ardveenish and the development of harbour infrastructure in the area was agreed by the Comhairle in 2009 to protect fishing and processing employment and develop other important economic activity in a fragile island area."

The Comhairle has committed capital funds to the project and HIE have also agreed to contribute. The Comhairle is now going out to tender with a view to work starting in Spring 2013. The overall project cost will be in the region of £1.5m
