New Gaelic Resource Now Live Online!

e-Stòras, a new Gaelic resource, is now live online. The website, which was created by the Multimedia Unit of the Education and Children’s Services Department of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, is part of their remit to create educational resources for pupils in Gaelic Medium Education.

There are 3 main sections to the website; Pre-school, Primary School and Secondary School. The different sections focus on a range of subjects from History, Songs, Language, Culture and Drama. The Secondary section has additional focus on literature and there are a series of short videos about Iain Crichton Smith and Dòmhnall Ruadh Phaislig in addition to An Sgeulachd Ghoirid (The Short Story) which was created over a year ago. All 3 sections are constantly being updated with new materials which will enhance young people’s Gaelic learning opportunities.

Catriona Stewart, Chair of Education and Children’s Services at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, said, “This on-line, live resource will further enhance and enrich the learning experiences of children in Croileagans and Gaidhlig Medium Units throughout Scotland and I applaud the work of the Multi-Media Unit in providing snapshots of community work as well as our rich cultural heritage and modern stories presented in formats which are extremely appealing.”

Evelyn Coull, Manager of the Multimedia unit at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, said, “We are pleased to have this new resources live online and available for all young people to utilize it to enhance their Gaelic language skills. This resource is suitable for use not only in the Western Isles, but wherever Gaelic is taught, and we hope that it will supplement what pupils learn in the classroom.”
