Press Release - 27th May 2014

Comhairle Welcomes New Accounts Commission Follow Up Report

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has welcomed the findings of the Accounts Commission Follow Up Report on Best Value and Continuous Improvement.

The new report highlights significant improvements in the way the Comhairle is run.

The report states: “It has used its corporate improvement plan to drive the improvements required and to monitor progress. As a result, a more effective culture of performance management and self-evaluation is embedded across the organisation, and an increased pace of change is evident, especially in key areas such as asset and workforce management. Other improvements include a decrease in sickness absence and a substantial rise in the proportion of staff receiving annual performance appraisals.”

The report noted that the Comhairle could further improve the way it evaluates the satisfaction of customers and citizens.

Comhairle Leader Angus Campbell, said: “This is a very welcome follow up report from Audit Scotland and the Accounts Commission and demonstrates that the Comhairle has made significant improvements in how we manage and assess our performance. I am particularly pleased to see the comments on the increased pace of change in the running of the organisation. I and my colleagues in the Comhairle are also aware that further improvements can be made and we are continuing to work on these, specifically in the area of evaluating customer satisfaction and maintaining the momentum in continuous improvement.’
