Comhairle nan Eilean Siar

Press Release - 10th October 2017

Dreachd Phlana Cànain Gàidhlig Comhairle nan Eilean Siar 2018-2022: Co-chomhairleachadh Poblach

Tha Comhairle nan Eilean Siar air dreachd de Phlana Cànain Gàidhlig 2018-22 a dheasachadh, a rèir Earrannan 3 agus 7 de dh’ Achd na Gàidhlig (Alba) 2005. Tha an Dreachd Phlana seo deiseil a-nis airson a dhol a-mach gu co-chomhairleachaidh poblach airson sia seachdainean, a’ tòiseachadh Dimàirt 10mh Dàmhair, 2017, agus a’ crìochnachadh aig 12.00f air Diluain 20 Samhain, 2017.

Mar sin, tha a’ Chomhairle a’ sireadh bheachdan choimhearsnachdan nan Eilean Siar, beachdan bhuidhnean Gàidhlig ionadail is nàiseanta, agus beachdan ùghdarrasan ionadail air feadh Alba, air susbaint an Dreach Phlana seo. Thèid meòrachadh air na beachdan seo gu lèir mus tèid an dreach mu dheireadh den Phlana a dheasachadh aig deireadh nan sia seachdainean.

Chaidh an Dreach Phlana seo, an treas cuairt de Phlana Cànain Gàidhlig na Comhairle, a dheasachadh an dèidh sgrùdadh mionaideach a chaidh a dhèanamh air amasan, toraidhean agus adhartas a’ Phlana 2013-2017. Chaidh e fa chomhair Comataidh Buileachaidh Plana Gàidhlig an t-seachdain chaidh, far na chur ris Buill an làn-thaic ris.

Thuirt John A MacÌomhair, Cathraiche Comataidh Buileachaidh aig Comhairle nan Eilean Siar: "`S e plana lèirsinneach a tha seo le amasan àrd-inbheil a ghabhas an coileanadh. Mar Chomhairle tha sinn gu mòr airson a’ Ghàidhlig a neartachadh anns na h-Eileanan an Iar agus ged a tha sinn mothachail gu bheil obair fhathast ri dhèanamh, tha adhbhar misneachd ann dhan chànain le àireamhan anns na sgoiltean-àraich gu math fallain. Tha sinn an dòchas gum bi an ginealach seo fileanta agus misneachail ann a bhith a’ cleachdadh na Gàidhlig. Tha sinn cuideachd mothachail air an luach eaconamach a th’anns a’ chànain do na h-Eileanan agus tha sinn an dòchas gu bheil am plana a’ daingneachadh na cothroman a th’ ann a thaobh cultar agus dualchas ar cànan.

“Mholadh sinn dha duine sam bith aig a bheil ùidh sa Ghàidhlig, fios a chur thugainn le beachdan air and dreach phlana ron a’ cheann-là".

Tha an Dreach Phlana ri fhaighinn air làrach-lìn na Comhairle aig:

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Draft Gaelic Plan 2018-2022: Public Consultation

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has prepared a draft of its Gaelic Language Plan for 2018-2022, in terms of Sections 3 and 7 of the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005. This Draft Plan is now ready to go out for a six-week period of public consultation, beginning on Tuesday 10th October, 2017, and finishing at 12.00pm Monday 20th November, 2017.

The Comhairle is therefore seeking the views and comments of the communities of the Western Isles, of local and national Gaelic organisations, and of public authorities across Scotland, regarding the content of this Draft Plan. These views and comments will be fully considered before the final draft of the Plan is produced at the end of the six-week period.

This Draft Plan, for the third iteration of the Comhairle’s Gaelic Language Plan, has been prepared having undertaken detailed reviews of the targets, outcomes and progress of the 2013-2017 Plan. The Plan was presented to Comataidh Buileachaidh Plana Cànain last week and received its full support to move to a public consultation.

Cllr John A MacIver, Chairman of the Comhairle’s Gaelic Committee, said: “This is a very ambitious plan with deliverable aims and outcomes. The Comhairle remains committed to strengthening Gaelic in the Western Isles and although we realise there is still work to do, there are also some very encouraging signs, with pre-schools numbers looking very healthy. Indeed, we hope that this generation will emerge as fluent and confident speakers who are proud of their language. We are also aware of the economic value of the language to the islands and we hope the plan will help to promote the opportunities that exist in relation to the culture and heritage aspects of the language.”

“We would encourage anyone with an interest in the language to submit their views on the draft plan before the deadline.”

This Draft Plan is available on the Comhairle’s website at:
