On Tuesday this week a party of young people from Tonga aged between 15 and 25 arrived in Barra on an exchange visit for a fortnight. A full programme of activities, including sporting activities, music demonstrations, discussion groups and the chance to take an active part in the life of the Barra community has been arranged. Comhairle Convener, Councillor Alex MacDonald, who will be meeting the visitors on Thursday night said: "I am delighted to welcome these visitors to our islands and I would like to congratulate the people of Barra on the tremendous initiative which they have shown in organising such a full programme of events. The Comhairle is very pleased indeed to be associated with such an exciting event and I am sure that the next fortnight will be an educational success as well as hugely enjoyable and memorable time for our visitors and their hosts in Barra".
