Comhairle Moves Ahead With Decentralisation

As part of an ongoing commitment to decentralisation of jobs, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's Policy and Resources Committee today agreed to conduct a survey to assess the demand amongst staff for the decentralisation of posts.

The Comhairle has set a policy target of the decentralisation of 10% of staff by the year 2002.

Vice-Convener Roddy Murray said today:

"The aim is to enable staff of the Comhairle who wish to work outside Stornoway to do so. At this stage the aim is assess what level of demand there is amongst staff and the next step would be to devise means of decentralising their posts."

The Committee also agreed to an audit of appropriate office accommodation outside Stornoway.
