Comhairle Appoints Director For Sustainable Communities

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar today unanimously appointed Mr. Munro Gold to the post of Director Of Sustainable Communities. Mr. Gold has been Acting Director Of Environmental Services since 1999 and was previously Depute Director of Environmental Services.

The new department aims to provide a new focus for sustainable communities through the merger of the current department of Environmental Services, the European and Development Services function of the Chief Executive's Office and the leisure function of the current Education and Leisure Services Department.

The new Department will focus on promoting sustainable economic and community development through environmental, cultural and community education services.

Mr. Gold was educated in Shropshire and at Aston University, Birmingham. He is married with two children and is a crofter in the Lochs area of Lewis. His wife Jan is Chairman of the Western Isles Citizens Advice Bureaux.
